Quirky and Unique Springdale Station Wedding

Give us all the quirky and unique Springdale Station weddings please! When Chrissy and Michael reached out to us they knew they wanted someone to photograph their wedding day as candid as possible. They are top-notch writers in the industry, so much that a few months prior to their wedding Chrissy won an Emmy! The cleverness, silliness, and authenticity between these two are admirable. Below is a bit more about them that they shared with us to paint a backdrop of their story.

How did you both meet?

“We met at ColdTowne Theater in Austin on April 1st, 2012. Literally April Fool’s Day at a comedy club…which is honestly way too cheesy for our liking. Chrissy was working the ticket booth/front counter and Michael was there for a show. One of Chrissy’s jobs was to clean the chalkboard out front and Michael’s opening line was to offer help cleaning the chalkboard. We didn’t run into each other until a couple of days later but sort of immediately started dating after that.”

Chrissy became attracted to Michael through his confidence and how he stood tall. He had a cool nature about him and made her laugh in such a genuine way. She also appreciated how weird his brain was in the best possible way. For Michael, his attraction started with Chrissy’s dimples when she smiles. He loved how easy it was to talk with her and how much she cared for those around her.

Here are the details about their proposal.

Every year since moving to NYC back in 2014 they started doing a Xmas date. They head to all the pop-up Christmas-themed bars and hit up the Rockefeller tree along with fancy store window displays. An entire day is made of this event along with a gift exchange. They choose a designated area and have about 15 minutes to run and come back with a gift, typically with a $20 budget. In December of 2019, they decided to do their Xmas day and gift exchange on the same day in NYC. Bryant Park was their designated location this day so they ran out for their 15 minutes to choose a gift. Chrissy gave Michael his gift first which was a fun pair of socks and some beard ornaments. Literally, Xmas-themed clips to hang on your beard. Michael was next so he gave her a dinosaur hand puppet since they both love dinosaurs. When Chrissy put on the hand puppet she discovered an object inside that was blocking her from putting her hand in. Yep, it was a ring box. Michael asked her to marry him while being so nervous he forgot to put the ring on. Chrissy said, “uhhhh yeah” and then they said now they are here filling out this questionnaire and planning a wedding!

On the wedding day itself they had a low key start getting ready at South Congress Hotel. They wanted to plan on getting as many photos done prior to the ceremony so we took their couples portraits around South Congress Hotel. We then went over to Springdale Station where their wedding would be taking place. After all the photos and some time hanging out the ceremony began out back of the venue. To our surprise, and all of the guests, there were small “skits” throughout the ceremony. People would “interrupt” the ceremony and talk about how they didn’t want glue on their seat as they experienced at a previous wedding. Someone else was supposed to give a speech they didn’t prepare for so she read the items off of a CVS receipt. A man was fighting for the love of his life and didn’t want them to get married because of loved another woman who Chrissy was not. Many other hilarious moments happened which made this wedding unique to the many we’ve photographed.
